There are many different types of environmental jobs. One of the most diverse and in demand are those that fall under the category of environmental engineering jobs. Environmental engineers can work doing research, designing, planning and operations. Engineers are also employed by the government through their regulatory sectors and as managers of government programs. There is also a demand for experienced and trained individuals to be professors to teach the engineers of the future.

Environmental technology jobs are also increasing rapidly as science is essential to understand the requirements needed to know how to manage environmental systems and hazardous materials in the private and public sectors. This knowledge is also needed for governmental reasons for making laws, policies and regulations regarding environmental issues. This knowledge includes knowing how environmental processes, biological and chemical mechanics work for assessments, communication and management purposes.
